The mansion and outbuilding at Northampton's Delapré Abbey, a neo-classical grade II listed building, hold traces of a former monastery. The mansion boasts a fascinating history of over 900 years. Founded as a nunnery in 1145 AD, the Cluniac Nuns resided at Delapré Abbey for nearly 400 years until King Henry VIII expelled them. The Abbey stands on the site of the Battle of Northampton, part of the Wars of the Roses. It is believed that the spirits of the many Yorkists and Lancastrians who perished here still linger in battle. The mansion has been home to the Tate and Bouverie families for generations, and their ghosts are said to still wander the premises due to family disputes.
